End of Year Calendar
End of Year Calendar
As we near the end of the 2019-2020 school year we are making an adjustment to our end-of-year calendar.  The last day of student work will be on Friday, May 15th.  If you are a senior at RCHS, the last day of student work is Friday, May 8th.

During the following week on Monday, May 18th and Tuesday, May 19th, the school district will utilize remote learning planning days.  May 20th is scheduled as a Teacher Institute.  These planning days will help get us better prepared if it is necessary to implement our remote learning plan next school year.  Like all of you, I am hopeful that we return to in-person learning next school year.  However, the reality is that we may experience a school closure next school year.  If this happens, it is our goal to be better prepared if we find ourselves in a similar situation.

Many people have asked about the school district's plans for end-of-year activities, and many people have offered suggestions.  Please understand that we have been waiting on information from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) that will outline what is appropriate for a ceremony such as graduation.  This guidance was provided last night and includes a directive that prohibits any type of in-person ceremony, which includes drive-through ceremonies or students coming in small groups for a photo or to receive their diploma.

At this time we are finalizing our plans and we will release specific details about high school graduation and 8th grade promotion by the end of next week.  I appreciate your patience and understanding as we attempt to recognize and honor our students while adhering to the directive from ISBE and maintaining social distancing requirements.  Many of the programs and activities in the spring are milestone events in the life of a student and I know it is disappointing that the school year is ending in this manner.  We will do our best to honor students in a safe, virtual ceremony.

Stay well!
